General Arthur Hyman was born in August of 1919. He lived through the Great Depression and served in the United States Marine Corps in World War 2, The Korean War and the Vietnam War. The General continued to progress throughout his career through careful leadership that balanced high standards and accountability with humanity. The underlying meaning is that without taking risks, the greatest rewards will elude you. Without taking action you can't be successful. There's another quote by the ice hockey great Wayne Gretzky: "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take." This sums up the idiom nicely doesn't it?
